The Mermaid Blog – Week 3

Good to SEA ya, fellow mer-beings Thank you so much for checking out our fin–tastic blog.

My name is Jo (or sometimes peach, or cherub, or just whatever you fancy) and I have the absolute pleasure of playing the role of “Aqua”, one of Mariels six sassy sisters. She’s a bit of stickler for rules, is our Aqua, studious too, and maybe a touch bossy, but she totally means well. She is much fun to play, and it was great to get a first go in our Monday rehearsal, whoop.

As usual for Monday’s we were rehearsing at The Intimate, and while our super choreographer, JoBOne, was teaching another sublime routine, this time for our baddies and the unfortunate souls to the sound of a cracking “Adele “ number, the rest of us were dusting off our scripts with our fab director Michael (it’s his directorial debut, you know, and he’s smashing it already) We managed to block all of Act One and us sisters got a few goes at our scenes with Mariel too…there were LOTS of giggles and banter with all seven of us together 🙂

On Wednesday we were back in the very capable hands of Mr Mike “keys of steel” Benyon, where we enjoyed belting out one of our upbeat finale songs (no spoilers) and revised our carnival inspired opening number too.

Copious amounts of tea and treats from our “Little Mermaid Tuck Shop” kept us all going through a tremendously productive and fun week under the sea.

Hope you cab join us for a crabtastic time in January. You’ll not want to miss this opporTUNAty…or all the bad fish jokes 🙂

Until then, Merfolk, big love and mer-kisses to you Xxxxx

The Mermaid Blog – Week 2

Hello all,

Jo Bee here, welcome to my first ever blog!

I am delighted to be part of the production team for “The Little Mermaid” and even more excited to have a new title as “Coralographer”

We’ve had a pretty busy week Monday night saw us set the dance for our opening number. There was blood sweat and tears and I definitely worked the cast hard but the end result looked great.

Our amazing MD Mikey B lead the rehearsal on Wednesday and our fishy friends sounded amazing whilst singing the opening number and one of our baddie songs (Boo hiss!) While this was taking place myself and our awesome director Michael Lacey had a meeting with our fintastic costume ladies Fay Kemal and Ellie Goss. We’ve got some fabulous costume ideas and I have no doubt that our cast are going to look amazing (and very sparkly at times!)

Finally, we were lucky enough to be performing at the Enfield town show on Saturday so we had a quick rehearsal, threw some costumes together and headed down there. We had a great response from the audience and also had some fab photo oppo “tuna”ties that we will be sure to share on Finstagram.

Our Little Mermaid, Lucy, sings ‘Part of Your World’

So that’s just been our first full week of rehearsals! We’ve still got so much more hard work and fun ahead of us but I know this is going to be a show that you don’t want to miss.

The Mermaid Blog – Week 1 (Read through, auditions, & first rehearsal)

And so that’s it.. the show has officially been cast! After a fantastically high standard of auditions on the 10th and 11th of September, SMP’s “The Little Mermaid – Panto 2018” is well under way!!

Monday night was the night everyone had been waiting for.. “The Phone Calls” – after the last audition has been completed, many of the “potential” cast gather at the local pub to await their fate.. I mean Phone call! This has become somewhat of a tradition within SMP, everyone supporting each other and being so excited to find out who got what part.

First rehearsal on Wednesday went off with a bang! Full of fun and crazy antics! The cast were introduced to each other through a set of “Ice Breaker” games, where we had a “Mermaid-Off” catwalk!! The cast were given a few bin bags and a roll of tape, then challenged to dress a nominated person up as a mermaid.

Then we had our first cast read-through of the fantastic script which has been written by Warren McWilliams. I have to say, this is quite possibly the best script I have had the pleasure of being apart of since being with SMP, and what a script it is for my first “Directorial Debut” it’s full of witty one liners and great comical shenanigans!!

I can’t wait to really get into full on rehearsal mode, with the cast we have being so packed full of talent, you sure are all in for a FINtastic show!! Be sure to book your tickets now to avoid disappointment!!
