Hello!! Maria here! Im new to SMP and join them for their brilliant Beauty and the Beast panto this year as one of the ‘dancing villager ‘ettes!’ LOVE IT!!
With all songs and dances set we hit the streets of Enfield and joined in the amazing atmosphere of the Parade of Lights last Sunday – following the serene Beauty and her Beast on their amazing float and lead by our carnival queen Marian, we danced and waved our way around Enfield – the looks on the faces of the children as they saw the float was just magical!!
Rehearsals this week consisted of run throughs and recaps – the amazing cast are all off-book now and are just fabulous – audiences are in for a treat! Songs that stay in your head for daaayyyss! Oh – and the sign of a great script?! When you’ve heard the jokes a hundred times during rehearsals but they still crack you up every time!!
We keep going to ensure this show is the best it can be – and it will be AMAZING! For me, I’ve loved every second of singing and dancing with this amazing bunch of talented people and I can’t wait to be on stage with them and share it all with the audiences and kiddies!!
Our cast have also been out and about this week entertaining shoppers at Love Your Doorsteps Pearsons event and visiting some of our local Beavers!
Don’t miss out!! Book your tickets for the most beautiful love story ever told with a whole lot of gags, fun and panto magic!
Tickets are available already via the Millfield Theatre website and you can book by following the link below.
The last few weeks have certainly seen us busy bees at SMP! We’ve been filling in much of the remaining choreography, scenes and musical numbers, we even set the bows – as ever with Fay Kemal’s trademark flair!
The Ladies were excited to be fitted for their dresses, but obviously us male chorus were not present for that, so we can look forward to being pleasantly surprised at the costume call, just like you will be when the curtain rises!
In general, this is a really special time in any rehearsal process, where all the groundwork starts to come together, and we suddenly have something resembling the show you will see!
There is still plenty of polishing to be done before we present it to you on the night of course, but it’s definitely starting to feel like a real show!
At rehearsals for Beauty and the Beast it is a genuine thrill to be in the room with so much talent, enthusiasm and good humour, all of them bringing their absolute ‘A Game’! If that sounds like fun to you, we can’t wait to share it with you!
Book your ticket now and look forward to experiencing it yourself on the night!

Hey gang! Hannah here! You might remember me from a number of last years virtual shows with SMP (including Agatha Twisty and the murder in Pantoland). Beauty and the Beast will be my first “in person” show with this wonderful bunch, and I’m so grateful to have been given the opportunity to be your Beauty!
Our second rehearsal kicked off with learning the fantastic “Better when I’m dancing”, and I don’t mean to brag, but it’s amazing. It really is one of those songs that will have you bouncing away in your seat.
We also now have our opening number! The amazing Fay (our choreographer, if you aren’t familiar, which, if you’ve been around for longer than me, you should be) has done some fab work with this ONE, AND is the ONLY one who could have smashed out that number so quickly. (I’m sorry I’ll leave the terrible puns our script writer, Warren)
We also have a number of scenes from the first act blocked off. This is the first time a lot of us have been in a rehearsal together, and already the giggles have started. Lets hope we can get them all out before show week. (We will… I think…)
We also got to go through our final number with the oh so talented Kate, who has created some stunning harmonies that will be sure to blow you away. The cast have done so well at picking them up and the sound is GLORIOUS (if I do say so myself)
Am I gushing about how wonderful this show is going to be just because I’m in it? Of course not! It truly is going to be a great time. However there is only one way to find out…
Book your tickets below and we’ll see you in January!

WE. ARE. BACK and we couldn’t be more pleased! – after what has felt like an eternity, we are finally back and ready to rumble.
On Monday the 16th we held our first read through of Beauty and the Beast, our panto for 2022, in person, yes, in person, all in one room and not a single person glitching due to a dodgy internet connection. I was so pleased to see so many old and new faces turn out for the read through. It was wonderful to hear the enthusiasm in people voices as they read each line, cracked each joke and responded to the songs selections for the show.
On Sunday 22nd, after a very long but entertaining day, we had completed our first set of auditions since early 2019!! – our last set of auditions were for Legally Blonde, the show had been cast and rehearsals well underway, before old BJ plunged us into our first Lockdown – But now we are back and we have a show AND a cast. A huge congratulations to those cast in the show, the standard of auditions was extremely high! – You should be very pleased!
We were straight in with the rehearsal period on Monday 23rd, the cast were put through their vocal paces by Kate Sanders our terrific MD, teaching the cast their opening number for the show – it’s a corker!
I’m sure I speak for everyone at SMP when I say that we are so ready and so pleased to be able to get back to it – I’d like to give a special shout out to the wonderful NHS staff and all of the essential key workers, who have worked so tirelessly over some of the darkest days I’m sure none of us expected we would see!
We can’t wait for you to see the finished product!

Featuring all your favourite panto characters this show has five possible endings and courtesy of an audience vote it’s up to the audience to decide whodunit and how our show ends. Performed entirely online and in isolation this show puts a whodunit twist on the traditional pantomime.

Congratulations to all those who will be involved, we’re pleased to welcome new members to the group for their first SMP show and welcome back many familiar faces too.

We hope you join us for the show as we all find out WHODUNIT??!!
SMP Theatre take the safety of our community very seriously. Due to the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have taken the decision to postpone our production of Legally Blonde until June 2021 with a view to perform our annual Pantomime “Beauty and the Beast” in December 2020.
This was not an easy decision to make, but we believe that
this is the right choice to protect both our audiences but also our friends,
family, cast and crew. Rehearsals for Legally Blonde will cease this week. The
decision was also made at this early stage to safeguard the group financially.
SMP Theatre had planned to take part in the 2020 Welwyn
Drama Festival, but sadly this event has been cancelled. We hope to take part
in 2021 and that when it becomes possible we can put on an evening of plays
locally.
We also hope to put on a fundraising cabaret performance to
help those who have supported our productions behind the scenes and now face
tough times as a result of the current situation and numerous cancellations of
their services. We hope that when we do so we can call on your support to
attend.
If you have already booked you tickets for Legally Blonde
the Millfield Theatre will contact you in due course regarding a refund. Please
give them ample time to do so. As you can imagine they are incredibly busy at
the moment.
We hope that everyone is safe, and that anyone that needs
support is able to get some. Please feel free to reach out to us via social
media or email for some entertainment, or human contact during these times of
isolation.
We thank everyone for their continued support of us and we will see you all very soon!
In the meantime we are screening our old pantomimes on our Facebook page so please keep an eye on our page for the next chance to see one of our shows.
Hey guys! Hannah here to update you all on this weeks rehearsals! ‘Cue fanfare, fireworks and confetti.’
This week has been a great one. We started off on Monday with “chip on my shoulder” including the LEGENDARY Harvard scene where Elle proves exactly how smart she can be, putting our Warner to SHAME! This was followed by the start of “what you want” and the rescue of the amazing paulette’s gorgeous fur baby from her awful ex partner thanks to the help of our bubbly heroine.
On Wednesday we got our groove on at Whitney’s party, and everyone learned a little bit more about the amazing Gloria Steinem (disclaimer; shes a woman who did things). Then the delta nu’s kept Elle feeling all things “positve”, and her new best pal Paulette educated us on all things “ireland”.
This show is coming together to be faaabulous. The talent is fantastic and I can’t believe how welcoming everyone has been to me as I develop my character of Enid. I must say, shes been great at helping me release my frustrations from the week, whilst having a great time.
If you haven’t got your ticket yet, WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU?! I might be biased but I’m excited each and every time we have a rehearsal to see what’s going to happen next. This is not one to miss!!

OMIBlog you guys! I’m very excited to be writing the latest update for the marvellous SMP cast of Legally Blonde.
My name is Bex and I am playing the role of Whitney. This week was a fun packed week of Legally Blonde rehearsals. On Monday, we all swatted up and learned the Harvard sections of the show with our Director Luke Clow and Choreographer Jo Bakhurst. There was much sensibleness and silliness while we were schooled on the moves and lyrics.
Next door to us on Monday, another talented group of SMPers selected their entries for a festival of one act plays. These sound wonderful and there was much excitement from the group.
On Wednesday a smaller group met to rehearse songs and acting sections of the show which meant a lot of us had a well earned and rare evening free.
However, we were treated to some excellent recordings of the songs and you will not be disappointed!
This week we were also sent a personal SMP good luck message from the original London Elle Woods! Snaps go to Aiden who made this happen! Eek!

Helloooo! This week you’ve got Tara
and Rosheen writing about all things legally blonde. We are both in the
ensemble, and we are very excited to be a part of the show, which is shaping up
nicely!
It was another one
rehearsal week this week, with us getting to see our resident Callahan (John
Stivey) in action, as we all navigated the tricky world of Blood in the Water.
But with the help of our show week MD, Simon, getting us whipped into shape by
the end of the night, it was sounding fabulous!
The rehearsal was immersive, where
we got to experience what it would be like to be law students in Callahan’s
class with the amazing John Stivey portraying his best self-important and
manipulative law professor.
Overall the rehearsal was fun, and
we got to get to know everyone else a little bit better. If the way the song
sounded by the end of the rehearsal is anything to go by, this show is going to
be amazing, and definitely one that you do not want to miss! We are loving
every second of it so far, and cannot wait for more rehearsals to come.
Rosh and T over and out!

Hey everyone! Archie Beach here with the third OMIBlog. I’m very happy to be in the show with SMP, it’s gonna turn out great from what we’re seeing so far!
On Monday, we set the dance to “What You Want” which was energetic to begin with, but with the dance on top, it’s a real showstopper! Big ensemble numbers are normally flashy and stylish, but this is even bigger! Hope everyone’s remembered the dance-there’s a lot to do in that number.
The energy in the room was just as good as the dancing-everyone was having a lot of fun from what I could see. It’s a good thing we have such a good choreographer in the form of Jo B because that could have quickly turned into a 2 hour nightmare session in the wrong hands! Everyone did really well on Monday’s session and it looks really good for the most part. The bad part’s mainly me not being able to dance to save my life, but oh well.
Unfortunately there was no rehearsal on Wednesday-I believe Jo was ill. Hope you’ve gotten better or get better soon! I guess “Jamaican Me Crazy!” is gonna have to wait for a bit.
Like I said, I think the show’s gonna turn out great from the quality of rehearsals we’ve had so far-can’t wait to see exactly how it turns out!
See you guys soon for another great rehearsal!

Heyyy hey! It’s Lauren Price here kicking off off the OMIBlog Week 2. I have been fortunate enough to be cast as the one of the Delta Nus and can’t wait to perform alongside such a gorgeous cast under the instruction of our wonderful creatives. *Snaps*
This week started with setting our opening number “OHMIGOD you guys”!! The energy that was coming from the rehearsal space buzzed around the room and that was before anyone even had a red bull!! The over excitable, fierce and utterly fabulous show starter sets the precedent perfectly for the journey we’ll have putting this show on.
We then took the time to sneak next door and see something a little more “Serious” from our very own Warner (played by Phil Crocker). Who has been breaking hearts since 1990. Anyone who knows our Elle Woods (played by Jo McWilliams)should not see her suffer this sort of heartbreak so close to Valentine Day!
On Wednesday we had our singing rehearsal for the absolute epic that is “what you want”it is sooo full out and I’m super excited to see Jo B work her choreography magic next Monday!
Love love LOVING rehearsals so far and so excited to piece the Legally Blonde puzzle all together and see what super masterpiece we end up with!
Peace out y’all – Mwah x

Hey there, you blooming beautiful bunch, happy Monday to you all. I’m Jo and I am absolutely tickled pink to have been blessed with the privilege of playing Elle Woods in SMP’s Legally Blonde (OMIGOD) Alongside a cast of phenomenal talent, and, as always, led by a team of very dedicated souls.
What a blast our first week of rehearsals have been, it’s been a joy to see both old and new members of the SMP family come together, havefun and sounding glorious already!
Starting with an eye wateringly funny “team building” session on Monday. As you can see from the pics our faces were alight with such a happy energy. OMIGOD you guys, we had so much fun! After a little introduction and “get to know each other” with our superb director Lukey, it was time to get moving…whoop
We were put into teams by “master of fun” our choreographer extraordinaire, JoBeeeone, who tasked us with several hilarious and slightly impossible missions to complete, including crafting Elles proposal dress out of bin bags of course, passing a hula hoop around our circles of joined hands, team skipping, sorting ourselves into a variety of orders in the fastest time and, naturally, climbing on top of one another to create the best demonstration of whatever random thing Jo had just shouted out, plus many other crazy and joyful antics.
Its safe to say all the fun worked a TREAT as everyone was buzzing, laughing, chatting and mixing so nicely by the time we sat down to have our first sing through of a full company number. The ever careful and expert conducting of our master of music, cupKate, had us all belting out our gorgeous harmonies in no time at all!
Needless to say the Delta Nus were mega excited to be returning on Wednesday for our second rehearsal, eeeeek, where we would be working very hard on the vocals for our extremely energetic opening number. This went super smoothly, and the deltas sounded incredible, so good I almost didn’t want to join in when the time came – I was enjoying it all so much!
A perfect start to our LB journey has begun, cherubs. Fun and laughter, friends new and old and sooooo many moments of “snaaapppsss” joy. Here’s to more heart warming weeks like that, eeeeek SNAPS (so sorry, last one) Xxxxx
One final thing, thank you Dave Stoughton for the lovely….SNAPS!

Hi all! Welcome to the Legally Blonde Blog, otherwise known as the OMIBlog!
We’re continuing the SMP tradition of the blog to bring you the news and updates as we bring our next show to life. And what a show it’s going to be!
For those who don’t know Legally Blonde the Musical, it’s based on the 2001 film staring Reese Witherspoon, the musical debuted on Broadway in 2007 and collected seven Tony Award nominations, it then arrived in the West End in 2009 and won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical. It’s a brilliant show, laugh out loud funny one minute, tear jerkingly tender the next, stock full of amazing characters and brilliant songs. And so I get the enormous privilege of directing – which is hugely exciting. Especially as I get to work with the magnificent Jo Bakhurst and Fay Kemal as choreographers, and the fabulous Kate Sanders and Simon Payne as Musical Directors.
So we came to read through and were blown away by the number of people who were interested in this show. We’ve never seen so many people at a read through for a show, which rather shows how good this one is!
And then we came to auditions. Well, in all my years I’ve never seen so many people give an audition, and what a standard! Everyone brought their A-game. It was lovely to see lots of new faces as well as our SMP regulars and the standard across the board was so so high.
We then had the tough task of trying to make some decisions. Because of the number of auditions and the high standards this took us longer than we’d imagined. So long in fact, we had to go into a different day!
In the end however, we finally made our decisions and our calls. It was tough and we know some inevitably had to be disappointed, but we are so excited by our cast. It really is an incredible collection of talent.
The creative team have a bunch of ideas as to how we’re going to put this show on stage and we can’t wait to start sharing them with our fabulous cast. First rehearsal is tonight, so now we really get started! OMIGOD you guys!!!!

SMP 2019 – A Year in Review – Ellie Ashby, Chair(wo)man
Well here we are. 2020 has arrived, not only a new year but a new decade. 2019 is officially over, and what a year it has been here at SMP.
New Year’s Day 2019 saw us again representing the London Borough of Enfield at the London Lord Mayor’s New Year’s Day parade. The theme this year was ‘Welcome the World’ so we presented our vision of an English country garden picnic come to life, complete with dancing maypole. Spending the first day of the new year dancing through central London together has been a wonderful way to kick off 2017, 2018 and 2019, and we were so honoured to be asked to represent the borough three years in a row.
January was a busy month as we then moved swiftly on to our pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. We take great pride in producing one of the best amateur pantomimes around and this was no exception. The week was particularly special to all of us as it was not only our last performance at the Intimate Theatre, but the last performance there at all. The final show and get out on the Sunday was bittersweet as we said goodbye to our beloved home. Many tears were shed – of sadness, of anger, of frustration and of laughter at all the happy memories made there. We continue to fight against the plans to demolish the Theatre every step of the way, but we are equally proud that, if Snow White does prove to be the last show ever played on that historic stage, we gave it a fitting send off.
Luckily we had one of our favourite events of the year in the calendar very soon after to help ease the Post Show Blues. Our principal cast journeyed to St. Elizabeth’s in Much Haddam to present an abridged version of the show to the residents there. Thank you to all of the staff and residents, as ever, for welcoming us so warmly.
A brief pause and then it was on to our June 2019 summer show. Again, this marked a big change to our usual programming. Not a musical, but Shakespeare in the form of Much Ado About Nothing, and not on a traditional stage but an immersive promenade production in the beautiful surroundings of Bury Lodge Park. Of course, we made sure it was Shakespeare with an SMP twist. Producing a full play outdoors, complete with lighting, music and cream teas (!) was a huge challenge but as ever we are lucky to have lots of very clever people who help make it possible. The positive feedback for the production was overwhelming and we hope to return to the park in the future with more outdoor immersive theatre.
The following summer months was not our usual restful period. Alongside having to leave the Intimate Theatre we also were informed we could no longer use our long standing rehearsal, costume and set storage spaces. An enormous shout out to all those involved in finding and providing the solutions, and in helping move everything over safely – a mammoth undertaking.
Panto season was then upon us again, earlier than usual as our move to the Chingford Assembly Hall meant the show being pushed forward into December. Not daunted by putting on three full scale productions in one calendar year rather than our usual two, we threw ourselves back into panto land to present Cinderella. We were pleased to welcome lots of new faces to the group, including our children’s chorus. The lead up to show week wasn’t always smooth sailing as we had to navigate the technical and logistical challenges of a new venue, but the show was another great success sprinkled with SMP magic.
Away from the stage lights it has also been a very exciting year for many members in their personal lives. Weddings, engagements, babies, new jobs and house moves have all featured. As it was recently put, SMP is ‘a bunch of people that came together to put on shows, made friendships and now we’re at each other’s weddings’. Congratulations to all those members of our big, weird, beautiful extended SMP family who have had so much success and happiness off stage this year.
One final note before I sign off. There are so many people to thank this year for helping keep as afloat through these turbulent times. I hope we as a group have made our gratitude clear throughout the year. I am not one to single people out, but it wouldn’t be fitting to leave this decade and move into our next without mentioning our Star Of The Decade (initially self-proclaimed but somehow it has stuck), Mr Warren McWilliams. We keep trying to thank him but he won’t let us so all I will say is this: there are not enough words in the world. Thank you.
And so here we are. The beginning of 2020, and many exciting things to come, not least our summer show Legally Blonde in June 2020 at the Millfield Theatre. Star Of The Decade is now officially back up for grabs so if you fancy this almighty accolade and would like to get involved, on stage or off, please get in touch below at….
If you’d like to be part of our next show, Legally Blonde – The Musical, then we have some important dates for your diary.
