Frosted Blog – Week 15 (Christmas and the New Years Parade)

Happy new year and what a fabulously frosted beginning it has been. We were asked by the wonderful Paul Everitt to represent the Borough of Enfield in the Lord Mayors annual New Year’s Day parade through central London. 25 of us took part and it was so exciting to be part of this joyful day.

Crowds lined the streets and we waved, danced and sang our hearts out as we passed the famous landmarks. Huge thanks to Warren McWilliams for organising everything and for his unending infectious enthusiasm on the day itself. Thanks also to Ian Smith for covering us, the crowds and London in snow, to Fay for costuming us to perfection and to Kathy and Paul Worral we couldn’t have done it without their help and support.

So back to rehearsals and with 2 weeks to go we are really getting excited. Members of the band and backstage crew joined us for our first rehearsal of the year. We danced off those mince pies and sang the winter blues away.

It is not too late to get tickets – I can promise you this is not a show to be missed.

Frosted Blog – Week 14

Hello! My name’s Sophie and I play Princess Hannah in our upcoming pantomime Frosted. To sum Hannah up, she’s incredibly excited, all of the time, about absolutely everything. So not too dissimilar from myself really!

Once upon a time I was an SMP baby, so having grown up watching my parents in their shows, it was only natural that I too joined when I was 15. And now here we are!

But enough about me, you want to hear about how rehearsals are going, oh yes you do(!)

Well I’m extremely excited to tell you that we had our first costume run on Sunday. It’s always so wonderful seeing everyone all dressed up and sparkly, it really brings the show together. It was also the first time that we completely ran the show, start to finish. Of course, it wasn’t the smoothest ride but hey, perfection takes time, people! We’re cooking you a masterpiece here! We also had some photos taken for Front of House, and filmed a rather hilarious little introduction video which you may have seen doing the rounds by now, if not, definitely give it a watch!

Monday saw us at our lovely colourful rehearsal hut/nursery, running the show again, out of costumes this time. Scripts were put down, lines were remembered and giggles were most definitely had all round! Honestly, there are some cracking jokes in this pantomime, courtesy of our incredible scriptwriter Warren McWilliams, you won’t want to miss them.

Our Wednesday rehearsal started slightly different than usual, singing Christmas Carols in Southgate for Haven House Children’s charity. It definitely put us in a very christmassy mood before we got down to business! We spent our scheduled rehearsal time going over some dance routines and perfecting our harmonies.

Moving on, it would be silly not to mention that we had our fantastic annual SMP Christmas meal on Saturday, full of festive joy, yummy food, secret Santa presents and of course wonderful friends.

Our Frosted week finished with our 2nd dress rehearsal on Sunday, this time with a few added costumes, much slicker dance routines and tighter harmonies thanks to Wednesday’s recaps! What an incredible team we have 😊

So that’s it for this week! And what a busy week it’s been!

Princess Hannah, signing off!

Frosted Blog – Week 13

Hi! Jenny here with an update on the wonderfully Frosted goings-on this week in the world of SMP. This is my second show with SMP, having had an incredible time doing Urinetown earlier in the year, and I’m loving every second of being Frosty the Snowman!
Rehearsals have been an absolute blast, perhaps most excitingly because we now share our Monday night rehearsal venue with a nursery which (alongside some rehearsing) allows for such new games as How Many Dinosaurs Will Fit on Michael Lacey’s Hat?

So for this weeks blog entry, our new nursery friends are going to help me tell you about what we’ve been getting up to recently. The week kicked off on Monday with our choreographer extraordinaire Fay setting our penultimate number Wrapped Up.

(Note: people will be, you know, dancing and stuff, rather than falling over on the floor. The ability to accurately represent Fay’s choreography through the medium of wooden figures was hindered by said wooden figures’ lack of adequate moveable joints.)
Wednesday saw us running through all dialogue from start to finish with our wonderful director Luke. Its such an exciting part of the rehearsal process as everything is really starting to take shape now!

Best of all, Sunday saw us all getting dressed up for our first run of the entire show! Eeekk! Our wonderful costume team have once again outdone themselves, it is truly going to look stunning.

So thats another week of panto-land Wrapped Up. Not long to go now! 🙂
